A Lesson from Breakfast at Tiffany's.

One of my favorite lines in the movie struck a profound chord with me, revealing not only my fears but also how others view them.

Paul and Holly are in the back of a taxi and Paul begins to give Holly some retrospective...

You know what's wrong with you, Miss Whoever-you-are? You're chicken, you've got no guts. You're afraid to stick out your chin and say, "Okay, life's a fact, people do fall in love, people do belong to each other, because that's the only chance anybody's got for real happiness." You call yourself a free spirit, a "wild thing," and you're terrified somebody's gonna stick you in a cage. Well baby, you're already in that cage. You built it yourself. And it's not bounded in the west by Tulip, Texas, or in the east by Somali-land. It's wherever you go. Because no matter where you run, you just end up running into yourself."

From the onslaught of his affected point of view, Paul wasn't confused about who Ms. GoLighty was, she was the one that was confused. Holly protects herself with you feigned lifestyle, her feigned carefree attitude and her seemingly nonchalant demeanor.

People so often build barriers around themselves only to find themselves keeping love away instead of allowing it in. Love will cage you, love will trap you, but what is so wrong with that? I'd run circles around  trying to catch my love tail.  So what if love is a square ball? So what if it doesn't always make sense. The only thing it is required to do is  "just be". You don't have to quantify or qualify it. You don't have to regulate it or initiate it. One need not explain it, but just relegate to it. If you are going to build walls around your heart make sure the bars are spaced far enough apart to allow someone in. And if that doesn't work make sure someone has the key.(and don't go changing the locks!)
